Dime Bag of Weed: How Many Grams and What It Costs

Quick answer

A dime bag is slang for $10 worth of weed. The name comes from “dime”, the old nickname for a ten. The amount inside was never fixed: street definitions usually put it at about half a gram to a gram. In Canada today, $10 buys exactly 1 gram of premium AAAA flower at Bud Cargo.

Key takeaways

  • A dime bag is defined by price ($10), not by weight. A “dub” is $20 and a “nickel” is $5.
  • Most slang guides put a dime at roughly 0.5 g to 1 g of flower, depending on quality and where you buy.
  • At Bud Cargo, all 31 in-stock premium strains sold by the gram cost $10 for 1 g, so a dime is one gram of AAAA or AAAA+.
  • Buying in bulk changes the maths: our median ounce deal works out to $2.57 a gram, about 3.9 g for every $10.
  • Canadian survey data (2022–23) put average legal dried flower at $6.25 a gram and illegal flower at $4.76.

What is a dime bag of weed?

A dime bag is a small bag of cannabis sold for $10. “Dime” is old slang for a ten-dollar bill, so the name tells you the price, not the weight. It comes from the era of street dealing, when weed was sold in small, pre-bagged amounts at round prices rather than weighed out by the gram.

Because the price was fixed and the weight was not, two dime bags from two different sellers could hold very different amounts. That is still the main thing to know about the term: it describes how much you spent, not how much you got.

Is “Dime Bag” also a brand?

Yes. In the legal market, “Dime Bag” is also used as a product brand name. The Ontario Cannabis Store lists a Dime Bag collection, for example. Those products are sold by labelled weight like any other legal product. This guide is about the slang term.

How many grams is a dime bag?

A dime bag is usually about half a gram to one gram of weed, but there is no standard. What you get for $10 depends on the quality of the flower and the local price per gram. Cheaper flower means a heavier dime; top-shelf flower means a lighter one.

A rough rule: divide $10 by the price per gram. At $10 a gram, a dime is 1 g. At $20 a gram, which is what some premium flower costs in high-priced markets, it is only half a gram. At bulk-ounce prices it could in theory be several grams, although nobody sells a $10 bag at bulk rates.

For the standard weights that do have fixed definitions, see our guide to how many grams are in an ounce of weed.

How much does a dime bag cost?

A dime bag costs $10. That is the definition. What changes is how much cannabis $10 gets you, which is why it is more useful to compare prices per gram than prices per bag.

Canadian data shows how much prices have moved since street-bag days. In the International Cannabis Policy Study, Canadians who bought dried flower in 2022 and 2023 reported an average of $6.25 a gram from legal sources and $4.76 a gram from illegal sources, prices that include excise tax for legal products (Rundle et al., Drug and Alcohol Review, 2025). At those averages, $10 buys about 1.6 g legally or 2.1 g illegally.

What is a $20 bag of weed called?

A $20 bag of weed is called a “dub” or a “dub sack”. A $5 bag is a “nickel” or “nickel bag”, and a $10 bag is a “dime”. Above that, slang switches from dollar amounts to weights, starting with the eighth.

SlangWhat it meansWeight
Nickel (nickel bag)$5 worthNot fixed (usually under 1 g)
Dime (dime bag)$10 worthNot fixed (about 0.5–1 g)
Dub (dub sack)$20 worthNot fixed (about 1–2 g)
Eighth⅛ ounce3.5 g
Quarter (QT)¼ ounce7 g
Half (half O)½ ounce14 g
Ounce (O, zip)1 ounce28 g
QPQuarter pound112 g (4 oz)

The dollar terms are approximate by nature. The weight terms are not: an eighth is 3.5 g wherever you buy it, which is why legal stores and online dispensaries price by weight.

What does $10 of weed buy in Canada today?

At Bud Cargo, $10 buys exactly 1 gram of premium flower. Every one of the 31 in-stock AAAA and AAAA+ strains that we sell by the single gram is priced at $10 for 1 g, so on our menu a “dime” and a gram are the same thing. Here is what $10 is worth at each size, using our live prices on 16 October 2026:

Is a dime bag worth it?

A dime bag is the most expensive way to buy weed per gram. It makes sense if you only want to try a strain, but you pay roughly four times the per-gram price of a typical ounce deal for that flexibility.

For mail order, shipping changes the picture too. Bud Cargo shipping is a $25 flat rate to BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, $30 to Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI, and $35 to the territories. Orders over $150 ship free (over $250 to the territories). A single $10 gram is better added to a bigger order than bought on its own.

How many joints can you roll from a dime bag?

One or two. If your dime is a full gram, that is one 1 g joint or two half-gram joints. Our guide to how many grams are in a pre-roll compares common joint and pre-roll sizes.

Where to buy a “dime” of weed online in Canada

If you want a small amount, buy by the gram. These in-stock premium strains sell single grams for $10 (prices checked 16 October 2026):

The full list is in our premium flower category, and single-gram joints are under pre-rolls. If price per gram matters more than trying a strain, the budget buds category lists ounces from $39. Remember that the Cannabis Act limits adults to carrying 30 g of dried cannabis in public.
