What strain is Wedding Cake?
Wedding Cake is a dessert-style hybrid that became one of the most widely grown strains of the late 2010s. Leafly describes it as “a potent type of indica-hybrid marijuana strain” made by crossing Triangle Kush with Animal Mints, and notes that in Canada the same cultivar goes by Pink Cookies. Leafly also lists Triangle Mints #23 as an alias.
The strain is most commonly credited to Seed Junky Genetics, a California breeder whose head breeder is known as JBeezy (Anthony Hart), according to Seedfinder. Its popularity peaked when Leafly named it Strain of the Year in 2019.
Triangle Kush × Animal Mints, or Cherry Pie × GSC?
The parentage isn’t settled. Leafly, AllBud and our own product page all give Triangle Kush × Animal Mints. Seedfinder records that “some say” it is that cross, “while others claim it’s a unique hybrid of Cherry Pie and GSC”, and a third view treats it as a phenotype of Triangle Mints. The Cherry Pie × GSC story is probably why so many descriptions mention cookie sweetness with a cherry-pie fruitiness, which is how AllBud describes the taste.
Both parents in the main version are well documented. Leafly lists Triangle Kush as a Florida indica named after Jacksonville, Miami and Tampa, with 20% THC and myrcene as its top terpene. Animal Mints is Animal Cookies × SinMint Cookies, a minty hybrid that Leafly lists at 18% THC. Animal Mints is also one parent of Kush Mints, which makes the two strains cousins.
Is Wedding Cake indica or sativa?
Wedding Cake is an indica-leaning hybrid. AllBud rates it 60% indica and 40% sativa, Seedfinder gives a similar “60% indica genes” estimate, and Leafly files it as a hybrid that leans indica. Our ounce listing calls it indica-dominant, which matches.
That 60/40 split is closer to balanced than many dessert strains. Its descendant Ice Cream Cake, for comparison, is rated 75% indica by AllBud. Our guide to indica vs sativa vs hybrid explains why these labels are only a rough guide to how a strain feels.
Is Wedding Cake a potent strain?
Yes. Wedding Cake is one of the stronger mainstream strains, with published THC between 24% and 27%. Leafly lists 24% THC and 1% CBG, AllBud gives 25% to 27%, and Seedfinder says “roughly 25% THC”. None of the three lists a meaningful CBD figure.
Those are typical figures for the strain, not a lab result for any one batch. The grower, the phenotype and the harvest all move the number, and we don’t publish lab results for the lot we stock now, so we don’t quote a THC figure for it. If you’re new to strains in this range, start with a small amount. Our guide to reading THC percentages on a label covers what the numbers do and don’t tell you.
What does Wedding Cake taste and smell like?
Wedding Cake tastes sweet and doughy, with vanilla and a peppery finish. Leafly’s top reported flavours are vanilla, pepper and butter. AllBud lists berry, fruity and sweet, and describes it as combining “sweetness of cookies and fruitiness of a cherry pie”.
Leafly lists caryophyllene as the dominant terpene, followed by limonene and myrcene. Caryophyllene is the source of the pepper note, limonene adds a citrus lift and myrcene an earthy, herbal base. The cannabis terpenes guide explains each one in more detail.
What does Wedding Cake look like?
AllBud describes the buds as dense and “shaped like pine trees”, very frosty, with dark green leaves and orange hairs. Expect visible frost on a good lot; a dull, leafy trim is a sign of a lower grade.
What effects do people report from Wedding Cake?
People most often describe Wedding Cake as relaxing, with appetite and a calm, happy mood. Leafly’s top reported feelings are relaxed, aroused and hungry, and AllBud lists creative, euphoria, relaxing and sleepy. The most common negatives on Leafly are anxious, dizzy and dry mouth.
Because of its strength and indica lean, most people treat it as an afternoon or evening strain. This section describes what consumers report, not a health claim, and people react differently to the same strain.
How does Wedding Cake compare with its parents?
Wedding Cake is stronger on paper than either listed parent and swaps Animal Mints’ menthol edge for a sweeter vanilla profile. The table uses Leafly data for all three strains, with AllBud’s figures for Wedding Cake added for context.
| Wedding Cake | Triangle Kush | Animal Mints | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type (Leafly) | Hybrid, indica-leaning | Indica | Hybrid |
| THC (Leafly) | 24% | 20% | 18% |
| THC (AllBud) | 25% to 27% | n/a | n/a |

Wedding Cake has also become a parent strain itself. Crossed with Gelato #33 it produced Ice Cream Cake, and it is a parent of Wedding Pie.
