Quick answer
Shatter is a translucent, brittle cannabis extract, typically 60–90% THC against roughly 15–30% for flower. In Canada it sells online for about $20 to $30 a gram. Our in-stock shatter runs $20 to $25 for a 1 g slab, median $25, mostly single-strain Boost extracts.

Why shatter is priced the way it is
A gram of shatter at $25 looks expensive next to a gram of flower at $10 — until you account for potency. At 60–90% THC against flower’s 15–30%, a gram of shatter carries roughly three to five times the active compound of a gram of bud. Per milligram of THC it is usually the cheaper purchase, which is the main reason regular concentrate users stay on it.
The trade-off is that it is far easier to overdo. Doses are measured in fractions of a gram, and the onset from dabbing is close to immediate.
What to look for when buying
Clarity. Good shatter is translucent — amber to pale gold when held to light. Cloudiness usually means it has started to sugar up, which affects texture more than potency but suggests age or heat exposure.
Snap. It should break cleanly at room temperature rather than bending. Softness points to residual solvent or moisture.
Single-strain labelling. Most of what we carry is strain-specific — Pineapple Express, AK-47, Death Bubba, Rockstar, White Widow, Girl Scout Cookies and others — so the terpene character carries through rather than being blended away.
The regulatory picture
Cannabis extracts are a legal product class in Canada. Under the federal Cannabis Regulations (SOR/2018-144), a licensed cannabis extract may not exceed 1,000 mg of THC per immediate container, and extracts meant to be ingested are capped at 10 mg of THC per discrete unit. Extracts also cannot contain added sugars, colours, sweeteners, nicotine or caffeine.
Regulatory limits as published in the Cannabis Regulations and Health Canada’s guide on composition requirements for cannabis products. These limits govern licensed producers. Bud Cargo is a mail-order dispensary and is not a provincially licensed retailer.

Frequently asked questions
How much does shatter cost in Canada?
Online it typically runs $20 to $30 a gram. Our in-stock shatter sits at $20 to $25 for a 1 g slab, with a median of $25. Licensed retail tends to price higher per gram, and bulk multi-gram packs bring the unit cost down further.
How strong is shatter compared to flower?
Much stronger. Flower usually tests somewhere in the high teens to high twenties for THC, while shatter and similar extracts commonly land between 60% and 90%. That is why a dose is measured in fractions of a gram rather than in joints.
Is shatter legal in Canada?
Cannabis extracts are a legal product class in Canada. Under the federal Cannabis Regulations a licensed extract cannot exceed 1,000 mg of THC per container, and ingested extracts are capped at 10 mg of THC per unit. Bud Cargo is a mail-order dispensary, not a provincially licensed retailer — you need to be of legal age where you live.
What is the difference between shatter, wax and budder?
Mostly texture, which comes down to how the extract is purged and agitated after extraction. Shatter is translucent and brittle; wax and budder are opaque and soft. Potency is broadly comparable — pick on handling preference rather than strength.
How should I store shatter?
Cool, dark and airtight. Warmth makes shatter soften and lose its glassy snap, and light degrades cannabinoids over time. Parchment paper inside a sealed silicone or glass container is the usual approach.
