What a $89 ounce of AK47 gets you

An ounce is 28 grams — around 56 half-gram joints, or roughly a month for someone smoking a gram a day. At $89 that works out to about $3.18 per gram, which sits near the top of our ounce range of roughly $39 to $100.

Ounce deals are sold as a full 28 g ounce only. We do not break them into eighths, quarters or half ounces — the flat ounce price is the entire point of the deal and it is what keeps the per-gram cost where it is. Why is AK-47 called that if it is mellow?

Nobody has ever given a satisfying answer. The name suggests something aggressive and the strain is the opposite — AK-47 is consistently described as mellow and gentle rather than forceful, while still being genuinely potent. The mismatch between name and character is part of its reputation.

Where does AK-47 come from?

It is a deliberate blend of sativas from South America, Thailand and Mexico, crossed with an Afghani indica, and it originated in the Netherlands in the early 1990s. It went on to become one of the most decorated strains in cannabis, picking up major awards including a second-place finish for best sativa at the High Times Cannabis Cup, and it has stayed a global favourite ever since.

What kind of high is AK-47?

Sativa-leaning and clear-headed, but without the edge that often comes with strong sativas. It is an easygoing strain — which, given how heavily it has been awarded over three decades, is a large part of why it has lasted.

How to keep an ounce fresh

Get it out of the bag it ships in. An airtight glass jar kept cool, dark and around 55–62% relative humidity holds flavour and potency for months, while a bag left in a warm room turns dry and harsh within weeks. If you are working through the ounce slowly, split it across two jars so you are not airing out the whole supply every time you open it.
